Nigerians react as American rapper Russ shares snippet of his upcoming Afrobeats song.
American rapper and songwriter, Russell James Vitale, better known as Russ, on Monday took to Twitter and shared a snippet of his next song.
The song which he titled ‘Gimme Love’ is of the Afrobeats genre, from the beat, title, lyrics, to the delivery. Russ, himself, in the snippet video wrote his name as ‘Oluwaruss’ & ‘Russchukwu’, a mixture of Nigerian names.
The song is scheduled to drop on Friday (February 24). Listen to the snippet below:
Nigerians, however, have reacted to the snippet on Twitter. Among the Nigerians who reacted to the snippet was music journalist Joey Akan.
He wrote, ‘If Russ puts enough marketing behind that record and it blows as a western Afrobeats record, expect a rapid assimilation of everything else. And when Afrobeats can exist in the US without Nigerian artists, we are back to square one’.
